The Department of Human Environment
and Design offers three undergraduate majors. Click on

All students can take advantage
of study trips, site projects, internships, and the extensive
professional contacts of the faculty. Internship programs
enrich your academic credentials by providing you with
the opportunity to work in approved business, government,
and industrial settings for credit. Internships are available
for apparel and textiles, interior design, and merchandising
management. The Interior Design and Architecture in Europe
overseas study program offers students first-hand exposure
to French and British design and architecture.
You can develop leadership skills
by getting involved with campus and/or college government.Faculty
in the Department of Human Environment and Design take
student opinions seriously and actively consider them
in decisions that affect academic programs. The College
of Human Ecology Undergraduate Student Advisory Council
gives undergraduates a chance to provide advice and feedback
to college administrators.
You will also have the opportunity
to join student chapters of professional organizations,
including the Student Apparel Design Association, the
American Society of Interior Designers, and the Merchandising
Management Association. These groups host interesting
and informative programs involving a variety of design
professionals. By participating in them, you can receive
first-hand information from practitioners in your field
and build relationships with faculty members and other
students.
The College of Human Ecology
awards one $1,000 scholarship to a high-achieving freshman
enrolling in any program offered by the Department of
Human Environment and Design.
In addition to scholarships
sponsored by the College, the Department of Human Environment
and Design offers the following awards and scholarships
for distinguished students:Anna E. Bayha Award,Anna M.
Creekmore Award,Ellen B. Judson Award,Morna Kline Award,Interior
Design and Architecture Travel Scholarship, andMehas Endowed
Scholarship.
