The Department
of Human Environment and Design offers professional programs
which focus on the design production, distribution and
use of clothing, textiles, and other products in living/working
environments. The goal of Human Environment and Design
(HED) is to offer programs designed to provide students
with an understanding of the social-cultural and physical
components of the near environment, their impacts on human
life, and the technical knowledge and skills necessary
to fulfill requirements for entry-level professional positions.
All students
can take advantage of study trips, site projects, internships,
and the extensive professional contacts of the faculty.
Internship programs enrich academic credentials by providing
the opportunity for experience in approved business, government,
and industrial settings for credit. Internships are available
for each undergraduate program. Study abroad opportunities
include “Retail Distribution in Russia and Poland,”
and an exchange program in the Netherlands. Interior Design
and Architecture in Europe is a 3-4 week summer study
tour program which has been offered for over 20 consecutive
years. MSU and guest faculty give students first-hand
exposure to English and Italian design and architecture.
